AGM & Chairpersons Report

Good turn out at the AGM will allow LHYCA to target key areas as indicated by youth leaders.

Chairperson's Report

It is my privilege as Chairperson of Lewis and Harris Youth Clubs Association to write a report on the work of the association over the last 12 months.

LHYCA over the year has provided a programme of training for leaders and young people this included games nights, Keep it Real, Safe and Sound and Dance to name but a few.  LHYCA is aware that volunteers welcome the opportunity for training and we rely totally on the volunteers expertise and professionalism to run the youth clubs throughout Lewis and Harris and we hope to continue the training programme over the next 12 months.

Activities and programmes for young people included Momentum Pre-driving programme, Girls Day, Active Activities residentials and a youth exchange visit to Poland and an exciting new programme is planned for next year.

Scaladale has progressed well this year with Alistair Morrison setting new activities.  We also saw Girls on the Move Dance Training held at Scaladale attracting girls from all over Scotland proving that we can provide training to the same standard as mainland providers.

LHYCA also entered a float in the carnival.  This was during the Polish Youth Exchange visit and featured both cultures.

Fundraising is always a big part of youth work in Lewis and Harris.  Soon after last years AGM the committee along with friends took part in a fancy dress treasure hunt around Stornoway, this raised £1000 for children in need.  We thank everyone that takes part and contributes to all the youth clubs fundraising events throughout the year.

On the topic of thank you’s.  Thanks goes to the most important, the young people, for attending the clubs and participating in the activities.  Thanks also to the vast amount of volunteers for their hard work and commitment to the youth clubs.  We thank all individuals and businesses who support LHYCA and all the organisations who provide funding.

Last but not least a special thanks from the chair to the LHYCA committee and Scaladale committee for their hard work, dedication and patience over the year.
