Bridge Community Centre
The YMCA / Bridge Community Centre has developed some new workshops through the funding we have received and invite other clubs and individuals to get in touch if you want to come in and use any of the equipment.
We have purchased some new equipment for the club at our current location in the old An Lanntair premises in the Town hall. Youngsters can come to their weekly club night and enjoy Table Football, Air Hockey, table Tennis, pool and a variety of PS2 games. With access to such equipment and the fine selection of activities arranged by the clubs two Youth workers Jonathan Maciver and Moira Macdonald, there is no reason whatsoever for the children of the town area to feel bored throughout these long winter nights.
Mountain Bike Workshops –
The YMCA has put together a 10 week workshop for young people interested in mountain biking. The idea is that young people will come in and work with YMCA staff and volunteers to develop understanding of mountain biking through riding skills sessions, bike maintenance and bike recycling, even building their own bike! Anyone interested in getting involved, please get in touch with Jonathan Maciver at 702432. For those who are most keen and committed, there will be an opportunity to head to the mainland for some serious riding in the likes of Fort William, Peebles etc.
Anyone who has an old bike they don’t need or want anymore then please get in touch on 702432 and leave a message. They will either be recycled or used for spares and sold with the money going back to the workshop or given to local charities.
The workshops will start in January and will be run on a Tuesday and Friday after school initially. Places are limited so get in touch early.
IT Suite –
The YMCA has accessed some great IT equipment and will shortly be starting to produce its own videos and stories on anything from island life, culture, sports and local interests. We are looking for young people who want to develop their skills and put some ideas into practice. The workshops will introduce people to the Adobe Premier Pro editing equipment and allow users to also attain a nationally recognised qualification. Places will be limited although different projects can be run at the same time, again if you are interested contact Jonathan at 702432. If you have home videos or footage of you and your mates mucking about, why not come to the YM and edit it professionally, we'll offer training soon for people to learn how to use the software and develop their editing skills and abilities.
All this equipment and more, including comfy seating and other bits and pieces, is open to be used by other clubs if they wish, please contact Jonathan at 702432 to book the equipment for your use.
