Lipton Cup Quiz 2018
Written on 22.08.2012

 Lipton Cup Quiz

Fourty-four years ago, Lipton's supermarket presented the Lewis and Harris Youth Club Association with a cup to be awarded for public speaking.

The winning team were from Back Youth Club, Malcolm (Tom) Maciver, Angus (Ramsey) Macdonald and Alasdair I Macleod - all of whom went on to be known for their public speaking ability.

Area youth organiser at the time, Norman Maclean presented the cup to Tom Maciver in 1970 and this year (2007) the cup, after being lost in archives, was rescued and reunited with LHYCA.

Since 2007 the Lewis & Harris Youth Clubs Association have held a Trivia Quiz in Stornoway every year for under 12s to compete in, with the winners being presented with the Lipton Cup.

This year we are delighted to announce that after a nail bitting tie-breaker question between Breasclete Junior Youth Club and Carloway Youth Club the winner was ............Carloway Youth Club!!!

Tha aite àlainn aginn faisg air Scaladale – Coille Coimhearsnachd Ath Linne tuath air Bogha Glas. Thuig a forestry commission seachad an Coille ann a 2006. Se àite math a tha’n airson cuairt, baidhseagal , agus dol air a loch neo muir le kayak.

Nuair a ràinig cothrom bho Youth Scotland airson taic-airgid airson cuir chraobhan, leum sinn ris an teansa. Tha aite ann a dh’fhuilig plaigh bratag  agus bha iomadach craobh air a chall.

Cuir sinn air doigh la airson an òigridh Pairc agus ceann a loch. Le còig deug anns an buidheann cuir sinn corr ‘s ceud craobh le taic post fiodh agus fasgadh craobh.

An uairsin chaidh sinn gu Centre Scaladal airson spors, biadh agus boghadaireachd.

Bha craic math aig a h-uille duine , agus bha e gu h-àraid math faicinn òigridh na Pairc faighinn  ùine sòisealta còmhla ri chèile.

We have a wonderful place nearby here at Scaladale - Aline forest just to the north of Bogha Glas. The forest was handed over from the forestry commission to the community in 2006. It is a great place for walks, cycling and kayaking in the loch, and sea.

When an opportunity arose for us to apply to Youth Scotland for funding to buy native young trees we jumped at the chance. Some areas of the forest suffered from pest disease in the past, and many trees were lost.

We arranged a day out for the young people of Pairc and others from Airibhruach. With 15 in our group, we planted over 100 trees and staked them with shelters. After all that hard work we headed to the Scaladale centre for some relaxation enjoying a meal together, and then an introduction to archery.

A good time was had by all, and it was especially nice to see the young people of Pairc have some social time together.

Many Thanks to
